Invest in Alentejo reflects on the Agroindustry mission that took place in the Netherlands

The final day of the institutional mission focused on the visit to Royal FloraHolland , an organization that connects farmers and buyers to work together in various areas of the floriculture sector to guarantee its continued growth. Their strategy is based on the premise of sustainable success of its members and consumer satisfaction.

This visit to the Netherlands was aimed at presenting and promoting the Alqueva Multiple Purpose Enterprise and the potential of agribusiness in the Alentejo region, led by EDIA – Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-estruturas do Alqueva, S.A. and with the support of ADRAL – Agência de Desenvolvimento Regional do Alentejo, withing the scope of the Invest in Alentejo initiative.

According to José Pedro Salema, President of the Board of Directors of EDIA: “It was an intense week of learning and bilateral contacts. We had the opportunity to get to know a bit of the sophisticated and efficient Dutch agriculture, mainly associated with glass greenhouses. We discussed common challenges associated with sustainability, efficient resource management and climate change. We have foreseen opportunities for investment and development of Alentejo’s agroindustry together with several visited companies that have shown great interest in getting to know our region.”

João Maria Grilo, President of the Board of Directors of ADRAL – Agência de Desenvolvimento Regional do Alentejo highlights: “The established contacts and the desire to deepen them lead us to make a very positive balance of the mission. Several potential investors have shown clear interest in getting to know our region better and it is unanimous that this reverse process can be decisive for making businesses. This feeling of fulfillment reinforces the importance of what we are doing with Invest in Alentejo to the region’s development and sustains our desire of expanding the initiative in the near future. ADRAL and EDIA are in tune with these goals and we will work together to make them come to life.” The Invest in Alentejo initiative, promoted by ADRAL – Agência de Desenvolvimento Regional do Alentejo and funded by the Program Alentejo2020, has the mission to strengthen the internationalization of goods and services in the Alentejo region, within the main domains of the regional intelligent specialization strategy (EREI).
