Aeronautics
In recent years the aeronautical and aerospace sector in Alentejo has benefited from a huge boost, because of a close cooperation and strategic alignment between the territory, industry, and R&D. Alentejo’s positioning, together with a regional smart specialization strategy, has turned the sector into one of the most emerging in the region.
The collaboration with several players of the aerospace cluster in the territory has helped to consolidate the sector in the region. Thus, Alentejo is positioned as a promising development hub for the sector, leading to new opportunities and greater consolidation in the value chain.
This would not be possible without the technical preparation of regional economic agents, especially in municipalities and interface bodies, to create all the necessary conditions to receive the sector’s investment in the region. Alentejo Regional Technology Transfer System has created partnerships, both in national and international contexts, to support entrepreneurship and research, capable of generating wealth, skilled/specialized jobs, and an ever-increasing social cohesion, and developing an innovation ecosystem.
It is worth highlighting the sector’s capacity to attract investment. Some examples are Embraer, Sevenair Academy, Lauak and Mecachrome which have a catalytic role for the investments in the sector and are an important piece in the international strategy for promoting the region and the sector.
Ponte de Sor’s Municipal Aerodrome is now seen as one of Alentejo’s most relevant infrastructures, with high demand from investors belonging to the aeronautics and aerospace sectors. Its land availability for construction, runway operating conditions and quality of the existing infrastructures make it the perfect place for the development of aeronautical activities.
